There's an off-gridder named Keith "Skeeter" Thompson who lives in the high desert of New Mexico. Check out this video that features him:
This guy is living the life that I want to live to such a level of accuracy, it's spooky. The only real differences are that he's in New Mexico and we'll be in Texas, and he drilled a well, and we will fetch water from a community well. I want to build a water tower to provide pressure. I want to have a battery bank that is solar and wind powered. I want to have a simple structure for a home and live quietly with my wife.
I aspire to be just like Skeeter. I wish I could find some contact information for him. He's featured all over the internet on off-grid blogs, but it's just this same video reposted and not much info.
Hey, Skeeter, if you're out there, hit me up! I'd love to pick your brain!
Additionally, Linda found a really good idea for our off-grid solar project that just makes good sense to me. Check out this guy's post about a home-built solar trailer. You can take your power generation with you! This has inspired me to start thinking again about how I will build our off-grid lifestyle. I like the idea of portable power. It means that we can just "go somewhere else" if we need to. Very convenient.
